West Hill is fighting a proposed planning application which has serious implications for the future of the shop and Post Office facilities. With the proposed reduction of two thirds in area of the present space , the shop would not be viable and Morrisons have said they could not continue trading in West Hill if this happens. That would also mean no Post Office which we are aware many residents and people from the surrounding area use for convenience. Parking will be reduced to 5 public spaces if proposed 9dwellings are built. EDDC HAVE CONFIRMED YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BE A RESIDENT OF WEST HILL TO MAKE YOUR VIEWS KNOWN You can see full details of this proposal 24/0044/FUL online at EDDC planning. https://planning.eastdevon.gov.uk/online-applications/login.jsp You will need to provide your name and address to register your comment but only your name will be published. Or... Send an email with your objection giving details as above. Send a letter to: EDDC Planning, Blackdown House, Heathpark Industrial Est, Hontion EX14 1EJ We have had a very good response so far stating objections, but we need to keep up the momentum. This plan, if allowed to pass, will destroy the heart of the village and make life difficult not only for the West Hill community but also those in the surrounding area. The deadline for making your opinion known has been extended to March 10th . YOUR VIEW COUNTS

Mobile Shop Proposal - Update 16 Feb 2024 The feedback to this proposal was positive, but currently this proposal isn't going forward at this time due to concerns about how we could consistently run the shop with volunteers, and also concerns about storage, towing and stock storage, and of course cost. Casual discussions about developing the Birch End green space with a more permanent space (similar to a garden room) led to a discussion at the recent Parish Council meeting on 12 February. The issues with getting planning permission and services attached, and also the major problem of parking and of course the cost of development means that currently we have no plans to develop a mobile or static shop/ space this year. We are however planning to develop Birch End as a friendly open spaces by installing seating for adults and children. However, note that Morrisons should open shortly in Cranbrook which should make access to local shopping easier for many. We have also suggested that Rockbeare hub provide a facility where local residents needing assistance with shopping could make themselves known and then volunteers would assist with getting shopping for them. Your thoughts on these matters are always welcome. Contact details for councillors are on this website and emails can be sent to clerk@rockbeareparishcouncil.co.uk

Many parishioners have asked about some clarification about the ownership status of the land adjacent to the Telephone box where 'Residents Only' parking signs have been erected. Land Registry records confirm that this land is owned by the Parish Council and as such anyone can park there with the Parish Council's permission. This is particularly important for school drop off and pick up. All the Parish Council would ask is that parking times on that land be kept to the minimum in the interests of all. The Resident Only signs will need to be removed. An excerpt from the Land Registry record showing boundaries is given below.
